Hey, hey, what’s up! Anirban, this side.

Today’s letter is a bit different because I’m not giving you any value. Instead, it’s an announcement post.

Yesss! You guessed it right, Untrails is organising its first-ever adventure.

In this letter, I’ll tell you everything. So, shall we start?

— Anirban

Where are we going?

We’re going to Chopta, Tungnath, and Deoriatal.

At Chopta (≈2,680 m / 8,793 ft), you will see wide green meadows, dense forests, and beautiful mountain views all around. The place is very peaceful with fresh air, and you can enjoy amazing sunsets and sunrises.

As you trek towards Tungnath Temple (≈3,680 m / 12,073 ft), you walk on an easy stone path with stunning views along the way. At the top, you find the highest Shiva temple in the world, surrounded by mountains and clouds. The place feels very spiritual and serene.

From Tungnath, you continue to Chandrashila Summit (≈4,090 m / 13,420 ft), the highest point of the trek. Here, there is a small Shiva idol/shrine, but it is not considered a full temple like Tungnath. What Chandrashila offers is breathtaking: panoramic views of snow-covered Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba, a stunning sunrise where the sky turns orange and golden, and sometimes clouds below you, giving a surreal feeling of being on top of the world.

Deoriatal is a clear lake. Here, you can see the reflection of the mountains in the water, surrounded by greenery and silence. It’s a perfect place to relax, meditate, and enjoy nature.

The name Deoriatal (sometimes spelled Devaria Tal or Deoriya Tal) literally means “the bathing lake of the gods.” In the local Garhwali dialect, Deori refers to divine beings or gods and tal means lake. Because of this, many believe the place has a sacred origin connected to the Devas (gods) who bathed here long ago.
